Nikki's Diary (August 2000)

August 2000

Monday day off Toronto Canada
We had a border crossing at about 6 or 7 this morning, unlike our past experiences, we didn't get rousted from our bus coffins and asked questions in broken french. The more you try to be polite and help out,the more they think you have something to hide…. Whenever I had something to hide, I hid it up my nose about 5 minutes before we hit the border,so I was very awake for their interrogation. But last night not a soul was woken, no drug dogs…no drama. Three weeks left on this leg of the maximum rock tour.We were talking with mustaine last night about doing a version of anarchy together…sounds like a killer idea…. Spoke to randy today, the fucker is running 5 miles a day, damn.He sounded amazing,he got these two huge panthers tattooed on his back…when someone else gets ink it kinda gives you the bug…the tattoo bug…its about time…. Donna and the kids went home today,I didn't get to see them as much as id liked to of.Its been sooo busy out here…and all four of them is a handful to entertain… Ill be home soon…then im taking my lovely pregnant wife on a 9 day vacation where theirs no computers, e mail, cell phones, tv, radio, ........just hotoil ,sun and our video camera…. We will announce somemore tour dates soon.
· · Tue..330 · Just got back from doing the Arlene Byron show here in toronto..its on tonight at 6 and tommorow at 2.. Off to the gig …………
Sick of touring today, maybe it's the weather in my head…
Feels like its raining….
· Fri Chicago Had a day off yesterday..I slept for over 12 hours… When I did crawl outta bed I went down to the hotel bar….that was a real snore….so came i back up to my room and went back to sleep…and just woke up after another 12 hours of sleep…
I had a dream I was sleeping and I couldn't wake up… Sometimes the line is so thin between dreams and reality…its just a loud noise or the phone ringing you out of one into the other ·
· · I know were playing tonight, but I have no idea where…. Someone just said to meet in the lobby at 330..and like a rock n roll zombie….i just march on…city to city to city…… · BUT ARE THESE A CONTRDICTION OF SPIRIT? ·
· SMOKIE ROOMS FILLED WITH BARFLYS OR A HOME FILLED WITH CHILDRENS VOICES LAUGHING AND CRYING OUT FOR ATTENTION. I THINK NOT.. I THINK THERE LESSONS IN WHERE YOUVE BEEN,WHERE YOUR AT NOW...AN WHERE YOUR GOING...

Maximum Rock 2K gets a "New Tattoo" By Tracy McCartney Kickers Magazine Managing Editor

The Album:
"New Tattoo" -Beyond Music/Motley Records I don't think that I have ever anticipated an album, as much as I did New Tattoo. Released on July 11th, this 11-track badass blew me away. Not quite as raw as Too Fast, not as polished as Dr. Feelgood, and these factors have made for a fantastic Motley Crue release. With titles like "Punched in the Teeth by Love" and "Treat Me Like The Dog I Am", the Crue have definitely re-captured the original strip bar, rock and roll aura of the 80's, and gave the Y2K music scene a proverbial smack in the face, Motley style. An album full of bone crunching hooks and a "screw you" attitude, New Tattoo feeds starving music fans a taste of what they have been craving, rock and roll, plain and simple. "Fake" is a harder edged tune, full of the attitude that this band is best known for. Though I don't see it as very radio friendly, it is sure to become a truth- laden rebel anthem amongst the die-hard Crueheads. The title track on this cd was quite a surprise; I hardly expected the song "New Tattoo" to be a ballad. If radio would permit, this could be another "Home Sweet Home". On the subject of ballads, the sweet, yet tough and heart wrenching "Hollywood Ending" cannot be ignored; vocalist Vince Neil really shines on this one. Both are songs that anyone can relate to, and while listening you can almost feel the emotion that went into the writing process. Neil's voice is in top form, and this along with the collaboration of Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and veteran skin basher Randy Castillo, makes this album classic Motley, and proves that there is room in the music world for more than boy bands and soft drink endorsements. tuesday august 29 indieanaplis show day today.....nothing much to report except fatigue and a knawing ache to have some time off to recharge the depleated batterey. we wrote the album, straight into recording the album which crossed time wise with rehearels for the tour into pre production rehearsel straight into the tour....as you know most of our days off are filled with us doing radio and press the thing about the end of any leg of a tour is,everybody gets punchy and things just seem flat out silly..almost like evrybody out here(( road crew, band, bus drivers truck drivers etc) seem to all be drunk.... onstage sometime we starting cracking up at eachother and everybody around us is....wondering whats so funny... i just wondered over to this mall and got p j harvey's album rid of me.. and a new book...rules of prey by john sanford..... p.s. ive recieved e mails saying how there has been complaints that the band hasnt showed up to meet our guests after the show... we meet all our guests before the show ((meet and greet) and if there are passes handed out, there not by me.....after all the events of the day and a performance i usually choose that time to unwind. thanks..sixx here is a review of the 58 album from sneeker.com,enjoy.... 58 Diet for a New America (Americoma Records) Instead of Motley Crüe's "Wildside," think more along the lines of the Velvet Underground's "Walk on the Wildside." 58, the long-awaited side project from Motley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, is finally here and guaranteed to surprise everyone. Very few Crüe fans will be able to handle this radical departure from Motley's brand of hedonistic-guitar rock, though it's really not aimed at them anyway. Those brave few who decide to check out Sixx's collaboration with David Darling will be left feeling like they've just been worked over like a squishy, auditory stress ball in 58's hands. Diet For A New America aptly describes itself as equal parts glam, hip-hop, rock, pop, funk, and a car crash. If you're trying to grasp some familiar landmark to cling to in this audio tidal wave, think Lou Reed meets Glam-era David Bowie meets Iggy Pop meets Sweet concocted with Pro Tools to sound like nothing else out there right now. This truly inspired and twisted disc brims with originality based purely on its sound. Catchy hooks and choruses appear in the milieu of warped bass, fractured guitars, and other tortured noises, rounded out by 58's other collaborators, Bucket Baker and Steve Gibb. (Yes, he's a Bee Gees brother, though Sixx calls him the "anti-Gibb." Believe him.) Hip and surprisingly accessible for all its dementia, Diet For A New America could easily be fed to starving music fans of almost any genre. Songs like "Piece of Candy" (an amusingly stomped on and festering bubble-gum-pop ode to co-ed camera Internet sites) and "Shopping Cart Jesus" (a funky, dirty rubber ball of a track about homeless messiahs) just burrow into your veins, leaving you trying to sing that seedy, glimmering feeling out through your skin. Good luck. When Sixx's eerily creepy voice pops out of the void, intermingling with Darling's own disturbingly calm vox, you should know that "the more things change, the more they stay the strange." - Mark Kohler
